You might have noticed many colourful posts lately with lavenders in your social media feeds lately. It's definitely the right time to visit those lavender fields with their blooming peak time usually expected between July and August. There are quite a few options to visit lavender farms near London.
One I have visited recently is located right on the edge of Greater London, in Banstead (Surrey) a few minutes away from central London by train. Mayfield lavender farm is the perfect place if you're after a little change of scenery and half a day trip away from London.
This 25 acre family run business is becoming increasingly popular though so it's strongly recommended to go on a week day. I went on a weekend and I must say that it was quite crowded. The entrance fee is £4 (free for children 16 years and under) and inside you'll find a cafe – definitely have a scoop of their lavender ice cream ! - and a little shop selling lavender products such as soap and perfume.
It might also be wise to check out the most recent update from the farm's website before you travel to make you're still on time to see the lavender. This year the farm opens 7 days per week from 9am to 6pm until the 31st August 2020.
So how to get there ?
You can take a train from London Victoria to West Croydon and then take the 166 that stops right at the gate of the farm.
Alternatively from London Victoria or London Bridge you go to Purley Station, then take the bus 166 to Oaks Park (from bus stop just opposite Tesco)
Note that some of those trains go through London Bridge in case this makes a more convenient starting point for you.
